I could REALLY use a wish right now...

One of my favorite songs this week is "Airplanes" by B.o.B., featuring Hayley Williams. One version also features Eminem but I don't particularly like his part of the song. Little too much undesirable language... Anyway, lyrics! Sans-Eminem version... With a few minor curse changes. :)

Airplanes

~Chorus~
Can we pretend that airplanes
In the night sky
Are like shooting stars
I could really use a wish right now (wish right now, wish right now)
Can we pretend that airplanes
In the night sky
Are like shooting stars
I could really use a wish right now (wish right now, wish right now)

Yeah
I could use a dream or a genie or a wish
To go back to a place much simpler than this
Cause after all the partying
The smashing and crashing
And all the glitz and the glam and the fashion
And all the pandemonium and all the madness
There comes a time when you fade to the blackness
When you're staring at that phone in your lap
And hopin' but them people never call you back
But that's just how the story unfolds
You get another hand
Soon after you fold
And when your plans unravel in the sand
What would you wish for if you had one chance?
So airplanes airplanes
Sorry I'm late
I'm on my way
So don't close that gate
If I don't make that
Then I switch my flight
And I'll be right back at it
By the end of the night

~Chorus~

Yeah, Yeah
Somebody take me back to the days
Before this was a job
Before I got paid
Before it ever mattered what I had in my bank
Yeah back when I was trying to get a tip at Subway
Back when I was rapping for the heck of it
But now days we rapping to stay relevant
I'm guessing that if we can make some wishes out of airplanes
Then maybe oh maybe I'll go back to the days
Before the politics that we call the rap game
And back when ain't nobody listened to my mixtape
And back before I tried to cover up my slang
But this is for decater
What's up Bobby Ray
So can I get a wish to end the politics
And get back to the music that started this stuff
So here I stand
And then again I say
I'm hoping we can make some wishes out of airplanes

~Chorus~

Such a good song! I'll admit... The fact that Hayley Williams is in it definitely influences my love for it. She's got an AMAZING voice. I love most of her music with Paramore, and to hear her rap is pretty awesome. :) Plus... Who wouldn't love to get an extra wish every so often?

My poem or whatever will have to wait until later... I've got to go to the Health Department and get a food handler's permit... And I've got a rehearsal for Music Man from 7-10.
So. Until later.

Take that, menace of the years.

Invictus
 William Ernest Henley (1849-1903)

Out of the night that covers me,
Black as the Pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be
For my unconquerable soul.

In the fell clutch of circumstance
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody, but unbowed.

Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the Horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Finds, and shall find, me unafraid.

It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll.
I am the master of my fate:

I am the captain of my soul.

I was introduced to this poem last week by my awesome friend, Spencer Kersh. It's his favorite poem... It's definitely one of my new favorites. :) It's super empowering, as well as... I don't know.... Almost chilling. Aaand... There's my inner nerd comin' out. :)

Idears.

Alright, so in order to keep this blog up, I've decided to do a few different things:
  1.  Write some sort of literature at least once a week. Poem... Short story... Etc.
  2. Find a poem, short story, etc. from some author/poet/playwright who is not me, and stick it on here. With respect to all copyright laws, of course!
  3. I'll be posting a song a week. Sometimes something new, other times something super old... It'll just depend on what I like that week and what strikes me as positively wonderful.
Enjoy. :)
